Color, shape, and design have always been my obsession and joy. My artistic endeavors began at age 3. Much to my Mother’s chagrin, I would hide behind the sofa and draw large murals on the wall with crayons. To this day my walls are covered with art, in an attempt to immerse myself in beautiful visions of bold impressionism and abstract art.
At age 12 my family traveled from Iowa to the Southwest to visit my Grandparents. I remember being awestruck by the beauty and diversity of the western landscape. I especially connected with the sweeping vistas of Arizona which inspired me to begin photographing and painting them.
I advanced my study of art at the University of Northern Iowa with courses in pottery, weaving, jewelry making, etc. However, after my first painting class, I realized I’d found my niche.
Floral design became my occupation for 40 years. It satisfied my need for creativity by blending my love of design and nature. It also helped to pay the bills while raising my family. Finally, my opportunity has come to paint again. It feels like I’m reuniting with a dear old friend.
I have had the good fortune to live in several western states while raising my wonderful family that supports and encourages my love of painting.
